DYNAMIC TED-STYLE SPEAKING WEEK-LONG WORKSHOP & LIVE EVENT
Dynamic TED-Style Speaking - an immersive, experiential, TED-style speaking program designed JUST for rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors.
TED Talks are the gold standard for public speaking. Learn a step-by-step method to inspire and motivate your audience. Master the art of storytelling, learn to paint strong visual imagery and understand how to get your audience behind your ideas, no matter how audacious or complex they seem. A fun, challenging and immersive workshop for those who need to wow and captivate.
You will learn how to deliver a powerful talk that builds communication, leadership and influence skills, and that can give you an edge in your college entrance interviews. We’ll break down the skills of the world’s most compelling speakers, and learn each of them in a way that even the newest of speakers can master.
Drawing on many years of experience and a rich background in the fields of professional speaking, theatre, movement and dance, vocal performance, mindfulness, leadership development, and emotional intelligence, Birmingham Speaks has tailored this immersive learning experience so that you discover, develop and perform your powerful message in your unique delivery style.
And here’s the best part: at the conclusion of the course, students will share their five – ten minute talk in a live, community performance held in a Birmingham theatre venue (think professional lighting and sound) very similar to those you see in TED videos.
Each participant will be filmed at this event and provided a professionally edited, downloadable video of their performance, perfect for including with college applications and sharing on social media (this video production alone is worth more than $1200).
Some of the topics covered in this program include:
Discovering Your Idea Worth Spreading – Find the intersection of your passion, your knowledge, and something the world cares about.
Building Your Mindfulness Mindset – Get grounded, connect with your message and your audience, and calm your nerves.
Creating a “through-line” – Determine the one thing you want your audience to remember about your talk.
Structuring Your Talk - Draw your audience into your talk and keep them with you until the very end.
Landing Your Open and Sticking Your Close – Make your talk memorable.
Storytelling Skills that Move Hearts and Minds – Create the stories your audience wants to hear.
Owning the Stage – Use your voice and body to connect with and move your audience.
Mastering Presentation Prep – Learn content and delivery preparation skills that will help you in high school, college and beyond.
Throughout the entire course, you will have the unwavering support and guidance of the instructors and your fellow classmates. Instructor led one-on-one and small group time as well as peer community building, coaching and feedback sessions are built into the workshop.
